Department of Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at Badampahar Degree College was established with the vision to explore and understand the rich cultural diversity, social structures, and traditional knowledge systems of the tribal communities in and around Mayurbhanj District. Situated in a region known for its vibrant indigenous heritage, the department plays a vital role in preserving, studying, and promoting the cultural identity of tribal societies.

Anthropology, as a discipline, bridges the gap between the natural and social sciences. It helps students gain a deep understanding of human evolution, cultural practices, social behavior, and the dynamics of change within communities. Through both theoretical and practical learning, students are encouraged to observe, analyze, and appreciate human diversity in all its forms.

The department emphasizes fieldwork-based learning, allowing students to interact directly with local tribal groups and understand their customs, traditions, art forms, and socio-economic challenges. This hands-on approach not only enhances academic knowledge but also fosters empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a spirit of social responsibility.
